Don’t know what level to sign-up for??? Here are the guidelines for the various levels

PreSchool/Guppies: (3 years & older)

  • Enter and exit water using ladder, steps or side
  • Independent enter, travel 5 yards, blow bubbles from mouth and return to side
  • Blow bubbles through mouth
  • BobbingFully Submerge and hold breath to count of 5
  • Front and back glides and floats (with support)
  • Recover to vertical position
  • Roll from front to back and back to front
  • Alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back
  • Combined arm and leg actions on front and back

Level 1:

  • Enter and exit water using ladder, steps or side (independently)
  • Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
  • Bobbing
  • Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
  • Front and back glides and floats (hold for 4 seconds with support)
  • Recover to vertical position
  • Roll from front to back and back to front
  • Tread water using arm and hand actions
  • Alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back
  • Alternating and simultaneous arm actions on front and back

Level 2:

  • Fully submerge and hold breath
  • Bobbing
  • Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
  • Front and back glides and floats
  • Change direction of travel while swimming on front or back
  • Combined arm and leg actions on front and back
  • Step from side into chest-deep water, move into a front float for 5 seconds, roll to back, float for 5
  • seconds then return to a vertical position
  • Move into a back float for 5 seconds, roll to front then recover to a vertical position
  • Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to the front then continue swimming for 5 body lengths. (You can assist the participant when taking a breath.)

Level 3:

  • Enter water by jumping from the side
  • Bobbing while moving toward safety
  • Rotary breathing
  • Survival float
  • Back float
  • Change from vertical to horizontal position on front and back
  • Tread water
  • Flutter, scissor, dolphin and breaststroke kicks on front
  • Front crawl for 15 yards
  • Elementary backstroke for 15 yards
  • Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency, knowing how to call for help and perform simple non-swimming assists

Level 4:

  • Swim under water
  • Feet first surface dive
  • Survival swimming
  • Front crawl for 25 yards
  • Backstroke for 15 yards
  • Open turns with front crawl and back crawl
  • Tread water using 2 different kicks
  • Elementary backstroke for 15 yards
  • Breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly
  • Flutter and dolphin kicks on back
  • Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency, knowing how to call for help and perform simple non-swimming assists

Level 5:

  • Front flip turn and backstroke flip turn while swimming
  • Elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly
  • Sculling
  • Swim front crawl for 50 yards, change direction and position of travel as necessary and swim elementary backstroke for 50 yards
  • Swim breaststroke for 25 yards, change direction and position of travel as necessary and swim back crawl for 25 yards
  • Tread water using 2 different kicks for 1 minute
  • Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency, knowing how to call for help and perform simple non-swimming assists

Level 6:

  • 12 Minute continuous swim
  • Front crawl for 50 yards
  • Back crawl for 50 yards
  • Elementary backstroke for 50 yards
  • Breaststroke for 50 yards
  • Sidestroke for 50 yards
  • Butterfly for 20 yards
  • Tread water with 2 different kicks for Minute and a half
  • Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency, knowing how to call for help and perform simple non-swimming assists
